Labour councillor donates £2k to Miners Memorial Fund

Your Labour councillor, Christine Dale has donated £2,000 from her Leadership Fund to the Shirebrook Miners Memorial Project.

Shirebrook at the turn of the nineteenth century was built on coal and the mining industry, and it is a tribute to the miners who worked in that dark harsh unpredictably dangerous environment over many years to forge the wealth of Britain’s economy through coal production. Shirebrook Pit was one of the country’s most productive mines.

Cllr Christine Dale said, "The Miners Memorial fund Committee has been formed to raise funds for a memorial in Shirebrook Market Place in recognition of the miners and their families and the 72 miners who lost their lives working down Shirebrook Pit and I am delighted to be able to support such a worthy and worthwhile cause."
