House building partnership is reaping rewards for Whitwell

A house building partnership your labour controlled local authority has with Robert Woodhead Ltd is reaping rewards for Whitwell.

As part of the Councils £36million Bolsover Homes contract, it stipulates that the contractor must deliver added social value elements like training courses for young people, engaging with local businesses to supply materials and bid for contracts and to work within the local community to identify areas of need.

As part of this ‘social value’ the contractors have donated a Defibrillator to the village.

The Defib will be situated on the entrance to local business, Planterior Landscape Services Limited, who have also kindly agreed to take on the responsibility for its maintenance.
Local Councillor for Whitwell, Tom Munro attended the hand-over of the defib and was delighted with it.

“The first few minutes are absolutely crucial in an emergency and I’d like to thank both Robert Woodhead Ltd and Planterior for their generous gesture in providing such an important piece of equipment to Whitwell.”

In addition to the Defib, Robert Woodhead Ltd have also improved parking facilities at Whitwell Football Club as a thank you for letting their workers use the facility during the Sandy Lane project.

In 2021 alone, the company have provided 48 training courses and 20 work experience placements through the Bolsover Homes partnership.

Cllr Munro added, “The added ‘social value’ we get from the contract with Robert Woodhead is proving dividends already and it is this type of innovative thinking that makes Labour stand out.

“We want to help local businesses, we want to provide education and training for young people to get into the construction industry and we want to provide benefits to the local community – all of which is happening through the Bolsover Homes contract.”

Bolsover Homes has already seen 16 new properties built and the additional 21 on Sandy Lane/Thorpe Avenue will bring the total to 37 new council homes built in Whitwell over the past year.
