Construction work taking palce on the development of the new 3G pitch at Go! Active leisure facility in Clowne

Investing in leisure

Bolsover District Council is investing in high quality health and well-being facilities at the Go! Active leisure facility in Clowne.

Over £1.2million is being spent in refurbishing the gym and providing a new 3G football pitch.

The gym recently underwent a complete refurbishment which has seen £500,000 invested into new and better equipment, new flooring and a new fitness app that helps tracks workouts.

And on top of that, the existing two grass pitches, which suffer from waterlogging during the winter months, are being transformed into one brand new state of the art, floodlit, full size 3G pitch.

Work is progressing well on the development which should be complete by May 2022.

The project is a partnership between your local Labour council together with the Football Foundation and Derbyshire FA that will see £700,000 being invested into the development.

Labour councillor, David Downes said “Investment like this shows our commitment to improving leisure provision in our communities. You can see the benefits it brings to people as they walk out the door and the comments received to date have all been very positive, so it proves what we are doing is what people want.

“The past couple of years have shown how important the health and wellbeing of our residents is, so any improvements we can make has to be good thing.”

Clowne is not the only area to benefit either. We are also working with Parish and Town Councils across the District to roll out a programme to develop leisure, recreation and play facilities.

The BILD (Buildings, Infrastructure, Leisure, Developments) scheme aims to turn an idea or ambition into something tangible that a Town or Parish Council can consider without the need for ‘upfront’ outlay and very expensive external professional support.

Council and Bolsover Labour Group Leader Steve Fritchley added, “We have a wealth of experience and expertise in developing projects and will work with Town and Parish Councils to develop their ideas from concepts to making them become reality so our local communities can stay fit, keep healthy and enjoy a range of activities.”
