Your local Labour Council is investing another £2.5million into the care and well-being of its elderly residents.
Valley View Independent Living accommodation in Hillstown is undergoing a complete refurbishment including modernising the bedsits to one bedroom flats that provide an open plan living feeling, making them more airy and lighter. Each flat will also be fitted with a wet room making it easier for the less mobile to bathe in comfort and ease.
When not in their flats, the residents will have the opportunity to sit in comfort in an upgraded residents lounge complete with large windows enabling them to take in the view over the valley.
Councillor Sandra Peake believes it is important to look after the elderly and vulnerable in our society. “Once again Labour is putting its money where its mouth is and investing in our elderly and vulnerable. We must continue to look after them as much as we can and if we can help provide them with a good quality home, then that is what we will continue to do.”
The refurbishment will also see residents have independent control over their heating system as the communal heating will be replaced with individual systems, which will improve the efficiency of the heating and hot water systems.
A new multi-sensor alarm systems will be installed to improve fire safety systems and a guest room will be upgraded to a self-contained flat for visiting families.
An exciting addition to the refurbishment will see two new bungalows built to the rear of the complex, giving residents an alternative choice of accommodation.
Councillor Sandra Peake added, “It’s important for residents to know that we are here for them, we are looking after them and we are doing all we can to provide them with good quality, modern and efficient homes.”
Over the past few years £4.5million has been ploughed into refurbishing Ashbourne Court in Shirebrook and Parkfields in Clowne and with the promise of more to come for Jubilee Court in Pinxton, it re-iterates the Council’s commitment to looking after its elderly residents and providing good quality accommodation at its independent living complexes.
Council Leader, Steve Fritchley said, “We see the problems other areas are creating by not investing in care homes or their independent living accommodation, but here in Bolsover District we have a different mind-set. One that puts our elderly and vulnerable first and one that actually cares for its residents and communities.
“There are many people who rely on the services of local authority run care-homes like Valley View, so as a Labour Group we will continue to invest in them for the benefit of our residents.”
This investment is on top of the £36million Bolsover Homes scheme which aims to build up to 400 new council properties over a four-year period and the improvements being made to the Council’s housing repairs system that will enable void properties to be bought back into use quicker.
