Labour looking after elderly whilst Tories keep on cutting

Bolsover District Labour Group is once again putting their money where our mouth is as we are investing nearly £3million into refurbishing the Jubilee Court Independent Living accommodation in Pinxton.

The complex is currently home to 20 residents and will see the facilities receive a complete makeover, including changing the bedsits to one-bed flats complete with wet rooms, to make it easier for residents to bathe.

This is the latest in a long line of investments that we have made into the care and well-being of our elderly and vulnerable, unlike the Tory County Council who just seem intent on closing everything down.

Labour Leader of Bolsover District Council, Steve Fritchley said, “As a Labour council, our residents are our top priority. That’s why we continue to invest in refurbishing their homes and building new ones to help alleviate the shortage of housing we have across the District and provide them with good quality, modern, affordable homes.

“All the Tories see when it comes to the elderly and vulnerable is ‘it is costing them money’ and this has been proven as they continue to target them by closing Care Homes and Day Centres at an alarming rate.

“You have a Tory government and a Tory county council who have millions at their disposal but continue to slash and cut budgets saying ‘they cannot fix everything’. But then you have a Labour district council, who through good financial management and planning can invest millions in refurbishing properties and build new homes for the benefit of local people. You tell me who is providing the better service?”

Over the past five-years the complexes at Victoria House (Creswell), Ashbourne Court (Shirebrook), Parkfields (Clowne) and Valley View (Hillstown) have all received or are undergoing refurbishment, totalling over £10million in investment. And on top of this, plans are currently being discussed to replace Woburn House in Blackwell with a brand new complex and associated bungalows nearby.

Local Pinxton councillor, Mary Dooley said, “We have listened to the residents and acted on what they want by investing in our housing complexes for their benefit, unlike the Tories who don’t seem to give two ha’pennys for them.

“Our tenants deserve the best and that is what we are providing them with - a safe and warm place to live and where they can remain close to their family and friends, not miles away.”
