At a council meeting of Bolsover District Council today (Wednesday 7 December 2022) it was overwhelmingly agreed to write to the local MP and the Levelling Up Secretary voicing the opposition to the proposed East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA).
Councillor Duncan McGregor raised the issue of the EMCCA and stated that at nearby North East Derbyshire District Council (which has recently gone into no overall control) they had voted to object to the proposal.
Council Leader, Councillor Steve Fritchley said, “We have debated this issue three times in this chamber and every time we have voted against it. There is a lot of objection to the proposal, not only here in Bolsover District, but across Derbyshire as well, as it will have a real significant effect on democracy in Great Britain.
“I have been asked to support their (NEDDC) decision and write to our local MP and urge him to vote against the Bill that is going through Parliament – which is what I will now do as you have voted and agreed to it.”
Councillor Duncan McGregor (Labour) moved the motion and Councillor Ray Heffer (Independent) seconded the motion. The vote saw 16 vote for the motion and three abstentions.
