On Thursday 4 May 2023, you voted in your thousands and overwhelmingly backed your local Labour candidates.
Thanks to your votes, Labour strengthened its grip on Bolsover District Council as we increased our majority from 20 to 31 seats.
Labour Group Leader, Steve Fritchley said, “This is a really good set of results for Bolsover District Labour, winning the majority of wards and I would like to thank everyone who voted Labour and put your faith in us. What we must do now is put our words and election pledges into action.
“We will continue with our ambitions to support our local businesses and high streets, provide good quality council housing in areas of need, invest in leisure and recreational facilities and regenerate our towns and villages, whilst improving skill and job opportunities for local people.”
Labour made significant gains in areas such as South Normanton, Barlborough and Clowne, and solidified their stance in stronghold seats such as Langwith, Shirebrook, Pinxton, Whitwell and Creswell.
Steve added, “All our candidates have worked extremely hard during the election period, and my congratulations go to all our elected councillors and commiserations to those candidates unsuccessful this time.
“We have already begun to look at what projects and schemes we can implement and have started by launching a £427,000 scheme to help our rural businesses – which is just a sign of things to come.”
The Council make-up is now as follows:
- Labour – 31
- Independents – 3
- Conservatives - 3
